Welcome!

Many people ask, "how did this begin?" GREAT Question!

I have always loved being creative and enjoy working in a variety of different mediums. I was introduced to woodworking (quite accidentally) and I was hooked, but that's a story for another page.

The biggest draw for me with the wood working is that you NEVER know the outcome. It's an adventure each and every time you approach a project. There is an initial idea and then picking a piece of raw material that starts the process - so much wood...so little time!

Each and every one of my sculptures is an original. That's not a boast it's just a simple fact - when working with wood you have to respect its uniqueness. Every piece has different characteristics - type, grain, even moisture content, can all factor in to what becomes a finished piece. One of the best ways I've learn to describe how pieces develop is it is like having a conversation. There is a definite back and forth between myself and the material - different than other mediums I've created with, maybe because it was once a living thing, I often feel that the wood I'm working with will dictate what it will allow me to make it. (Sounds a little strange - I know)

Once, when I was in Italy, I was fortunate enough to visit Michael Angelo's exhibit hall, before you enter to see the statue of David. I remember reading a plaque near one of the marble stages that explains his process on how he created the statue. His statement mentioned that the object was there in the stone the whole time and he just had to reveal it.  It wasn't until I began carving with wood that I realized what he meant.

I hope that you enjoy browsing around my website. There are many pieces to check out and many are available to purchase. Some have already found their way to new homes and if there is one that speaks to you feel free to inquire or even ask about commissioning a piece!
